The Makeup Show LA 2010
Overview Day 1: The Makeup Show LA 2010

February 28th – March 1st marked Los Angeles’ second annual Makeup Show hosted by The Powder Group!! If you’ve never heard of The Makeup Show, it’s a convention for makeup artists and beauty industry professionals. Tons of classes are taught by the industry’s top professionals and you can shop amazing deals from the all the pro brands.
It’s only the most amazing day of the year

Some of the classes I was able to make were taught by Eve Pearl, Kevin James Bennett, Victoria Stiles, James Vincent, Mary Erickson, Joanna Schlip, and an panel of makeup artists who work in reality TV. I love watching top makeup artists work and share tips!

At the MAKE UP FOREVER booth. They were painting him all day!

Left: Airbrushing at the Mehron booth. Right: I’m not sure who they were representing but they were really nice!
.

I spent sooo long at Inglot’s booth!! They are a Polish brand that are trying to transition to other countries. They have a store in New York but not LA.
They give you the freedom to make your own palettes! The palettes are all different sizes but they stick to each other because they are magnetic. It’s perfect for makeup artists because it allows a lot of space saving! I felt kinda bad for them because many of Inglot’s employees only spoke Polish, and they were having a hard time with all the questions! The brand seemed to go over well though, they were very busy all day! I bought a few things that I looooove. I can’t wait to try more.

It’s every (wo)man for themselves at the ALWAYS busy Crown Brush booth. Who can blame them? Brushes average about $5 but range from $1-$18!! SO Cheap. I always stock up.

Check Out My New Goodies

-I was so happy to see the Embroylisse booth!! I have been out of their moisturizer for a few months now and I can’t find it anywhere! I use it on almost everyone.
-I needed more Beauty Blender cleanser, and went ahead and got 2 new Beauty Blenders. The ones in my kit are kind of old and could stand to be replaced.
-I’ve heard rave reviews about CoverFX’s skin primer so I picked one up. I tested it on my hand and OMG I can’t wait to try it out on a real face.
.

-Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetic debuted four new Lip Tars at the show!!! I bought 2, Hoochie and Demure. I also picked up one of their older colors, Hush.
-I finally was able to try out OCC’s pigments and they are incredible.
.

MAKE UP FOREVER debuted a new addition to their “Aqua” collection that I am SOOO excited about!! They are called Aqua Creams and are waterproof cream colors! Think Flash Colors but budge-proof! You can use them on your cheeks, lips and eyes and the color selection is gorgeous. I tried a few on my hand and let me tell you, they work! I couldn’t rub it off for the life of me. I bought a really pretty coral color and can’t wait to get more!
-I also bought a clear Glossy Full gloss, Aqua Gel Liner, and and Aqua Eyes Eyeliner in a hot, deep green.
.

I am seriously dying to use my new Inglot products!! I bought three lip colors and two cream blushes. The blushes are super sheer and very natural. I do a lot of commercial work and sometime need a really natural flush on the cheeks. These are so perfect, I can’t even tell you! The lip colors are really natural looking as well, and I’m loving the consistency!
.

Crown Brushes from left to right: I bought two powder brushes, a small foundation brush, a blending brush, an angled blending brush, an angled eyeliner brush, two small fan brushes, a detail brush, a bent eyeliner brush, 3 lip brushes, a short blending brush, another large angled blending brush and a flat, bronzing brush.
The brushes with the purple handles were only $1!!!! I actually think they might be nail brushes, but I could care less. There are no rules in makeup
I will start posting swatches this week!! Check back soon.

Were they just painting people who volunteered their bodies or were there designated “canvasses”? Anyway, those look pretty impressive. The first picture is particularly stunning. Great post!

Thank you! The people being body painted were hired by the booth to be there
Some booths were doing small applications on attendees, but nothing huge, like full-body airbrushing.

Hi Jaclyn!
I definitely think it would be worth at least considering going to the show. The speakers and classes you have the opportunity to attend are great and yes, just about everything is discounted. Makeup Forever always discounts 40%, and other lines are about 20-50% off. Have you been to IMATS in Sydney? If not, it’s almost the same thing as The Makeup Show, just a little bigger and it includes more film makeup (prosthetics, special fx etc). If you work more (or wish to work more) in fashion, I would recommend the Makeup Show though :). Especially since it’s being held in New York, you’ll get to meet some amazing artists and be around the best of the best. Hope this helps you make your decision! If you decide to go, let me know what you get!
